Round pipes: properties, characteristics and purpose
During construction, many different materials and devices are used. One of them is pipes with a round cross section. The scope of their application is quite extensive, which is explained by the design features and operational properties. Most commonly, these products are made of steel. They are additionally coated with anti-corrosion impregnations and special compounds that improve the characteristics of metals.
Pros and cons of round pipes
The main advantage of products of this section is their mechanical strength. That is why they are most often used in the construction of highways with high pressure. Even if they are exposed to adverse environmental conditions, their characteristics and properties do not change. And these are not all the advantages.
There are some others: resistance to thermal expansion;
the material does not allow air to pass through, so that the working medium in the system does not mix;
a variety of shapes and sizes allows you to make the most suitable choice;
low price.
The main disadvantage is the likelihood of rust probability. But it is easy to eliminate by applying special protective compounds to the surface.
Methods of round pipes manufacturing
Products with a circular cross section are made by deformation of a steel billet. 4 types of technology are used: "Seamless hot-worked pipe. A sleeve of the desired size is formed from a heated billet using machines or presses. Seamless cold-formed pipe. The hot-rolled billet is subjected to cold rolling, forging and drawing.
Electrowelded straight seamed pipe. Strips (metal strips up to 4 mm thick) are sent for pressing molding, after which straight seams are created by welding.
Electrowelded spiral pipe. On special machines, a strip of steel is turned into a billet. After doing the welding of the seams and processing.

"Most often, pipes with a circular cross section are used to transport various gases, liquids and petroleum products. They are also used in the equipment of communication systems in multi-apartments and private houses.
Other spheres are mechanical engineering and construction of heating mains. They have found their application in the furniture industry and in the manufacture of metal structures that need reliable pillars.
Where the pipe will be used depends on the type of its construction. So, for example, seamless products are suitable for pumping oil products under high pressure, welded products are suitable for the construction of heating mains and water supply systems, and water and gas pipelines are suitable for transporting water and gas.
Classification system
All round pipes are divided into different types depending on several parameters. The first one is a type of corrosion protection. There are such types of products:
galvanized;
with anti-corrosion coating;
with a polymer layer;
with insulation materials.
Another parameter is the features of the operation of the pipe. It depends on where and how it can be used:
Class 1. General purpose products. Suitable for any type of work, creating any metal structures.
Class 2. Used for high/low pressure oil and gas pipelines.
Class 3. A great option for high temperature applications.
Class 4. Drill and casing pipes that are found in oil and gas fields.
Class 5. Products suitable for the creation of load-bearing metal structures.
Class 6. Round pipes of this type are used for the manufacture of shafts, cylinders and other blanks.
Another parameter for dividing into types is size. The diameter and thickness of the walls are taken into account. Like the previous standard, the sphere of use depends on them.
For seamless round pipes, the outer diameter ranges from 32 to 325 mm, and the wall thickness is 3.5-20 mm. For electric welded - 16-1020 and 1.5-12 mm, respectively. For water and gas pipelines - 10.2-165 and 1.8-5.5 mm.
Pipes with a round cross section can be called versatile. They are used not only in the construction process, but also for the manufacture of various metal structures and blanks, as well as for the equipment of oil and gas pipelines.
